With a style rooted in the African American Aesthetic, Rick’s work evokes the elegance and nostalgia of days gone by.  Using a wide artistic palate for expression and tools - including pencil, pen and ink, watercolor and oils - Holton’s acclaimed sepia toned Good Ol’ Days series has been compared to the works of Norman Rockwell.  A proud U.S. Marine, Vietnam veteran and self-taught artist, his work often mirrors pressing social concerns, as evidenced in his commissioned work from the Public Education Network for their “Breaking the Cycle of Poverty” conference.  Rick is also a licensed Major League Baseball artist paying homage to many Negro League Baseball starts.  His latest series, Centennial Celebration began in 1999 and demonstrates his avid jazz enthusiasm through the biographical treatment of jazz artists.
