Katonka was born in 1961 and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. After working as a freelance graphic designer, he turned his artistic passion to photography and the energies of fashion, editorial and fine art photography. Influenced by Expressionist, Dadda and Surrealist movements, Joe believes “If every image perceived with our eyes is simply a compilation of single moments in a much larger period of time, then truly a photographer can capture and create a story, atmosphere, or elicit an emotional response utilizing light and shape all within a single frame. Through my images, the revelation of the story or emotion is the responsibility of the viewer. My only expectation is to touch the translator with but a single moment that can be either questioned, felt or dismissed.”
